Q: Who can create an account on the Empowered Desktop?
A: Any Kan-ed member can create an account on the Empowered Desktop by
contacting customer support at Learning Station. The LearningStation
team will assist you in getting all users authorized for access.
Q: How do I access the Educational and Research Databases?
A: You can either use a Kansas Library Card or by accessing the databases
through an Internet connection from the Kan-ed member institution (IP
Access) or through the Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed.
Q: Who is eligible to receive a Kansas Library Card?
A: Kansas Library card is available to Kansas residents only.
Q: Where can I get a Kansas Library Card?
A: To acquire a Kansas Library Card, residents of Kansas apply in person
at a participating public library. Students’ grades K-12 can apply
at their school media centers. The card is issued with a unique personal
identification number (PIN) on it. With that PIN and their date of birth,
the cardholder can access Infotrac, FirstSearch, Discoverer Deluxe, and
netLibrary electronic books from any computer anywhere with Internet access
and a Web browser Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer (both
must be version 5.5 or better). The Kansas Library Card is intended for
remote access to electronic resources, it is not connected to books or
