Kansas Distance Learning Week - The Kansas Association of Interactive Distance Education (KAIDE) is celebrating the achievements of Interactive Distance Education in the state of Kansas by sponsoring a weeklong celebration of distance learning. The week of March 10-14, 2008 has been designated as Kansas Distance Learning Week. Since this week is also Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kansas, the KAIDE organization is planning to host a series of interactive distance learning sessions with a weather theme. From north to south and east to west, people from across the state will be able to participate in the special, interactive sessions. Regional host sites have been designated around the state, and people can participate in the sessions by attending the nearest host site which will most likely be a local school or education service center.
A variety of interactive sessions from locations around the state are planned for students, parents, and the public. The Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) equipment at each site will allow real time interaction between the presenters and audiences across the state. For example, a person in Salina who has a question about the Greensburg tornado will be able to ask a Greensburg resident and get an immediate answer. Topics that will be addressed include: the Greensburg tornado, flooding in Natoma, Red Cross response to recent disasters, emergency communication, tornados, weather forecasting, and more.
